Proxmox’s Enterprise Updates fix
Come rimuovere i repository Enterprise da Proxmox
Dopo l’installazione, Proxmox VE abilita di default i repository Enterprise.
Se non hai una subscription attiva, eseguendo apt update riceverai l’errore
401 Unauthorized. Ecco i passaggi completi per disabilitare i repository enterprise
e abilitare solo quelli no-subscription.
1. Cercare i repository Enterprise attivi
Verifica tutti i file che contengono riferimenti a enterprise.proxmox.com:
grep -Rni "enterprise.proxmox.com" /etc/apt /etc/apt/sources.list.d || true
2. Disattivare il repository Enterprise (.list)
Commenta la riga nel file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pve-enterprise.list:
# deb https://enterprise.proxmox.com/debian/pve bookworm pve-enterprise
3. Disattivare il repository Enterprise (.sources)
Il file .sources resta attivo anche se il .list è commentato.
Disabilitalo o eliminalo:
# Disabilita il repo enterprise in formato .sources
mv /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pve-enterprise.sources /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pve-enterprise.sources.disabled
# (opzionale) elimina definitivamente il file:
# rm -f /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pve-enterprise.sources
4. Aggiungere il repository no-subscription
Crea o modifica /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pve-no-subscription.list in base alla versione:
- Proxmox 8 (Debian 12 – bookworm)
deb http://download.proxmox.com/debian/pve bookworm pve-no-subscription
- Proxmox 9 (Debian 13 – trixie)
deb http://download.proxmox.com/debian/pve trixie pve-no-subscription
5. Pulizia e aggiornamento
Pulisci gli indici e aggiorna i pacchetti:
# Pulisci indici e aggiorna
apt-get clean
rm -f /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf
apt-get update
✅ Risultato
Ora apt update userà solo i repository no-subscription, senza errori 401.
How to remove Enterprise repositories from Proxmox
After installation, Proxmox VE enables the Enterprise repositories by default.
If you don’t have a valid subscription, running apt update will result in
a 401 Unauthorized error. Here are the full steps to disable them and use only
the no-subscription repositories.
1. Find active Enterprise repositories
Search for all references to enterprise.proxmox.com:
grep -Rni "enterprise.proxmox.com" /etc/apt /etc/apt/sources.list.d || true
2. Disable the Enterprise repository (.list)
Comment the line inside /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pve-enterprise.list:
# deb https://enterprise.proxmox.com/debian/pve bookworm pve-enterprise
3. Disable the Enterprise repository (.sources)
The .sources file remains active even if the .list is commented.
Disable or remove it:
# Disable enterprise repo in .sources format
mv /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pve-enterprise.sources /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pve-enterprise.sources.disabled
# (optional) remove file completely:
# rm -f /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pve-enterprise.sources
4. Add the no-subscription repository
Create or edit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pve-no-subscription.list depending on your version:
- Proxmox 8 (Debian 12 – bookworm)
deb http://download.proxmox.com/debian/pve bookworm pve-no-subscription
- Proxmox 9 (Debian 13 – trixie)
deb http://download.proxmox.com/debian/pve trixie pve-no-subscription
5. Clean and update
Clean indexes and refresh package list:
# Clean indexes and update
apt-get clean
rm -f /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf
apt-get update
✅ Result
Now apt update will use only the no-subscription repositories, without 401 errors.
